Colin James’ 1988 self-titled debut featuring his 2 self-penned hits “Voodoo Thing” and “Five Long Years,” was the fastest-selling album in Canadian history. Mentored by the legendary guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan, this iconic Canadian artist has topped the charts as a pop vocalist, a blues guitar player, and led the swing revival with his Little Big Band. Colin has performed for the Queen, sold multi-platinum many times over and continues to sell out shows coast to coast. A six-time Juno Award winner and multiple Maple Blues Award winner, Colin continues to innovate with every new record. In 2014, Colin will be heading back into the studio to record his 17th full length album.

Ron Sexsmith

In a world of workaday singer-songwriters mired in vacuous self-regard, news of a new Ron Sexsmith record can only gladden the heart of those who care about deftly poetic, gently affecting songs that perfectly distil the pitfalls of being human. Especially when that record pairs him again with the producer who, for two decades, has framed his music in its most sympathetic surroundings: Mitchell Froom. Ron Sexsmith’s Forever Endeavour, released in 2013, is a batch of songs sparked by an unexpected health scare in the summer of 2011, and it’s these tracks that give the album its sorrowful gravitas. “In the middle of a tour last year, they detected a lump in my throat, and I had an MRI and the Ultrasound,” says Sexsmith. “And in the middle of recording this album, I had a CAT scan to see if everything was okay. So I had this period of a few months where I was freaking out about everything, and that probably explains why some of the songs are so philosophical.”

Melissa McClelland and Luke Doucet tied the musical knot as Whitehorse, marrying their talent and chemistry as a smouldering duo. With their innovative approach and magnetic appeal, Whitehorse defies the math of one plus one. Whitehorse’s first full-length album, The Fate of the World Depends on This Kiss, showcases their fusion of blistering guitar work and perfectly matched vocals. From psychedelic-meets-Spaghetti Western scorchers to sparkling acoustic ballads to pop noir numbers, the album covers impressive ground without compromising its artistic coherence. The title comes from a Wonder Woman comic glued to the table in a diner in Vancouver, BC. The romantic urgency of The Fate of the World… speaks to an ominous, epic sense of drama about the fate of our world today, as well as to the personal risks involved in fusing their impressive solo careers into one new band.
