East Side Quartet

Jazz at Noon

Monday June 29 @ 12:00pm, Rideau Centre

Ralph Hopper - saxes
Ed Stevens – guitar
Paul Soble – bass
Matt Aston – drums

The music is based in mainstream jazz but infused with other styles including Latin, blues, fusion and more creating tuneful melodies and infectious rhythms. This set will include all original tunes written by saxophonist Ralph Hopper. All four musicians in this quartet perform regularly in the Ottawa area in various bands and have been together for the past year having performed at Merrickville’s Jazz Fest 2014 for the official release of the cd ‘Imaginary Squirrels’.

Ralph has been concentrating on composing music for the past few years and the tunes in the set for the Ottawa Jazz Festival are some of his most recent. The styles reflect his eclectic taste. While some are mainstream jazz, his writing also ventures into blues, Latin, cool jazz and funk, so this concert will offer a wonderfully diverse listening experience. Some of the tunes have already been getting regular streaming radio airplay. Satin Under Moonlight was the most requested tune on the Gravity channel on Outboundmusic.com for several months in 2014, with Eight By Eight and Squeaky Beach also in the top 10.
