10 AM - OCDSB Grade 8 All Star Band

The OCDSB Grade 8 All-Star Jazz Band is comprised of Grade 8 students from across the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board.  This year, the band has representatives from J.H. Putman PS, Cedarview MS, Earl of March SS (Intermediate Division), Longfields-Davidson Heights SS (Intermediate Division) and Broadview PS.  They are selected by audition in the fall, and rehearse together in the winter, culminating with concerts in February.  For the past several years, they have had the honour of kicking off the TD Youth Series at the TD Ottawa Jazz Festival.

11 AM - Nepean High School Sr. Stage Band

The Nepean High School Senior Stage Band is comprised of students in Grades 10 to 12 who rehearse twice a week throughout the year. The band performs in several contrasting styles, ranging from popular genres to substantial jazz standards. The musical emphasis is on the concepts of articulation, phrasing, rhythmical exploration and improvisation. Clearly, the band members are motivated to create music and explore a deeper understanding of the musical elements through performance.

Nepean High School has several ensembles that include Junior, Intermediate and Senior Concert Bands, Junior Jazz Band, Senior Stage Band and a school choir. Our music ensembles have performed at the Regional and National Music Festivals for many years and it is our honour to participate in the TD Ottawa Jazz Festival Youth Series.

Noon - Canterbury Senior Jazz Band

The Canterbury Senior Jazz Band is made up of Grade 11 & 12 students in the music program.  Under the direction of Mr. Jason Sinkus, the ensemble performs a variety of styles ranging, from straight ahead swing, to funk, and Latin.  They are always happy to be part of Jazzfest in Ottawa and are looking forward to performing once again this year!

1 PM - Ottawa Junior Jazz Band

The Ottawa Junior Jazz Band (OJJB) is an 18 piece big band consisting of Grade 8, 9 and 10 students from the Ottawa Region. For 15 years, OJJB has set out to provide a platform for students to further expand upon their musical experiences from middle school, and promote an interest in big band music. OJJB has had the pleasure of performing at the Ontario Music Educators Conference, Agriculture Canada Expo and recently performed at the Prince Edward County Jazz Festival where they opened up for the Brian Barlow Big Band. Anyone interested in learning more about OJJB should visit their website at OJJB.ca.

They are very grateful for the opportunity to perform at the Jazz Festival, and they would like to acknowledge the wonderful Canadian Jazz artists who continually inspire the band.
