Trumpeter Laura Jurd burst onto the UK’s jazz scene in 2010, releasing two acclaimed recordings and winning the BBC’s New Generation Artist award. Joined the following year by Elliot Galvin, Conor Chaplin and Corrie Dick, Jurd has evolved her sound to reflect the electronic experiments of Miles Davis in his later years. Her third album, 2016’s Together, As One—the first to use the Dinosaur name—blends elements of folk, jazz and rock, and introduces synthesizer and Fender Rhodes piano into Jurd’s sonic language. Reflecting on the evolution of her band over the past six years, Jurd says: “Regularly working with Elliot, Conor and Corrie in a live and studio setting has enabled my compositions to take on a life of their own.” While the band has toured extensively throughout the UK and Europe, 2017 marks its first serious foray into North America.
