Django Bates - Piano
Petter Eldh - Double Bass
Peter Bruun - drums
“Django is a genius,” says the Festival’s Programming Manager Petr Cancura, “I believe he's one of the world’s greatest composers.” As one of Britain's most talented musicians, Django Bates’ music has left a big impact on the jazz scene across the pond. This not be missed appearance marks Django Bates’ first Ottawa appearance! Joining him are Swedish bassist Petter Eldh and Danish drummer Peter Bruun, following the ECM release of their aptly named album, The Study Of Touch, recorded at Oslo’s Rainbow Studio last year, and produced by Manfred Eicher.
"Tender, impulsive, graceful... A session by a master improvising composer, and in ideal company," – The Guardian.
"Bates’s virtuosity has long matched his imagination - the fluidity of line, ultra-fast tempos and rhythmic independence were all to the fore - but at this gig they were harnessed to strong emotions and in-depth improvisation,” – The Financial Times.
