Bio

Featuring:
Gonzalo Rubalcaba - piano

Gonzalo Rubalcaba is a master of sound and has the rare ability to walk both worlds of American melodic and Cuban rhythmic jazz. Possessing an eloquent, pristine quality that is comparable to the likes of jazz great Hank Jones. The Cuban born Rubalcaba has made a name for himself throughout his long musical career that started when he was a child. Having won multiple GRAMMY awards and two latin GRAMMY awards, Rubalcaba is viewed as one of the great pianists of the 20th century and has established himself as a creative force in the jazz world. Rubalcaba also has big ties to some of the biggest names in jazz which include Dizzy Gillespie, who discovered the young pianist in 1985 while touring in Cuba, and the late, great Charlie Haden. The two worked together on many occasions but their most notable collaboration takes place on Tokyo Adagio, a live album recorded in 2005 at the Blue Note Jazz Club in Tokyo, released shortly after Charlie Haden’s death on the Impulse label in 2015. Receiving high praise from critics and viewed as a standout record, "In the end, we hear the true poetry of playing between these two—and Rubalcaba is never less than stunning here—and the connection between this and the spirit world made through these six compositions." - PopMatters.
