"Saxophonist Hayden Chisholm… the clearest, purist sound of any saxophonist out there today, rivalling— perhaps surpassing—that of one of Duke Ellington’s main alto men, Johnny Hodges…"- Allaboutjazz. Chisholm is a saxophonist and composer who has reimagined the sonic possibilities of his instrument and established himself as a leading voice in the musical no man's land where genres mix and/or disintegrate. In 1995 he developed a radical new microtonal system for saxophone which he revealed on his debut solo CD Circe. Since then his compositions have been recorded by BBC and WDR Radios and he has toured and recorded worldwide as a soloist with such artists as Root70, WDR Big Band, Musikfabrik Ensemble, and David Sylvian. For this special event he has selected his favourite songs from the session and also arranged some of his own compositions for the ensemble to augment and compliment these timeless jewels from the jazz canon.
