Drummer Jerry Granelli is one of the most widely recognized musicians in Canada and abroad. His prolific and genre-crossing music has been honoured bythe Juno Awards, The Grammy Awards, the National Library of Congress Sound Archives, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Granelli’s latest blues repertoire, Dance Hall, is a joyful reunion with guitar greats Bill Frisell and Robben Ford, and a fond salute to his own youth. Now in his 78th year, Dance Hall represents a return to Granelli’s fundamental desire to play the blues. “For me, it feels like a pretty outrageous record to make at this point in my life. Just to play the drums that way...that's what I grew up in. I can't wait to get on the road and play this music and see what happens. That's the next step," reflects the drummer. Jerry Granelli is one third of the fabled San Francisco-based Vince Guaraldi Trio that recorded the original Tales of a Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack back in 1965. In what’s become a great Ottawa Jazz Festival holiday tradition, each December Granelli regales audiences with stories and insights into the auspicious recording.
