Sun of Goldfinger

Tim Berne - alto saxophone

Ches Smith - drums

David Torn – guitar

Improvisation-based group, Sun of Goldfinger, push beyond jazz’s known boundaries, with perspectives ranging from the minimalist to the metallic, while effortlessly shifting from atmospheric shattering mayhem to thrilling effect. Renowned bandleaders in their own right, all three musicians have current solo recordings on the prestigious ECM label. Tim Berne, an iconic figure in the New York jazz scene, has forged a singular path across dozens of diverse albums featuring intricately-detailed, harmony-driven works. David Torn’s influence as a composer and music technologist is epic; working with icons such as David Bowie and Madonna. With sounds ranging from the searing and soaring to liquid loops to full-on shredding, he’s reinvented the conventional definitions of the guitar. Ches Smith has established himself as one of the world’s premier percussionists, combining acoustic invention with electronics to both propel and extend his myriad of musical surroundings. Determined to take audiences on a singular journey, the Sun of Goldfinger explores provocative sonic realms.
