Elizabeth Shepherd

Elizabeth performs on Friday February 13th at Dominion-Chalmers United Church at 7:30pm

A great musician is able to tell a story, draw you in with their voice, whatever their instrument may be, and do this no matter what the genre of music is. Even more rare is when a musician seems to have both the depth and the virtuosity to make you cry or want to become a professional gymnast at the same time. This is how I would begin to describe Elizabeth Shepherd, who performs at the TD Ottawa Winter Jazz Fest this friday. Elizabeth has always been virtuosic in that exceptional jaw-dropping way, just check out her version of Four.

What is really inspiring is how Elizabeth has been developing over the last couple of years. She has a fantastic ear for production; for creating super-funky grooves and tasty sonic environments that are a perfect compliment to her voice.

Her new record features many great talents including Lionel Loueke, a frequent collaborator of Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter amongst many others.

She brings with her a killer band: JUNO award winning Michael Occhipinti who you may remember from the Sicilian Jazz Project, the great Scott Kemp on bass, Colin Kingsmore on drums and the young a talented vocalist/trumpeter Tara Kannangara.
