Drawing from his background in the visual arts, Chet Doxas has seamlessly fused his love of painting and music. The result is his upcoming performance, Rich in Symbols, inspired by the art movement of New York City’s Lower East Side between the years 1975-85. Rich in Symbols captures an innovative musician on the rise, fueled by the sights and sounds of the city. The music that Doxas has composed for this recording and live show was written by ear while standing in front of his favorite paintings in various museums throughout New York City. During the live performance, the paintings are projected in HD behind the ensemble as the band performs the corresponding “soundtrack.” Some of the artists that are featured are J-M Basquiat, Keith Haring, Fab 5 Freddy and Robert Mapplethorpe. Think of it as “Pictures at an Exhibition,” gone 80s.
